Outdoor and original winter activities
The benefits of outdoor activities and sports in natural surrounding are well established. When we connect with nature, whether we’re being active or meditative, we recharge our batteries while sharing sensations and emotions, and we refocus on what really matters. In short, we do ourselves good! Méribel offers the ideal combination of nature and activities, allowing you to revitalise yourself in the heart of an exceptional environment at any time of year, thanks to varied and original activities developed by individuals passionate about the mountains.
Here are portraits of two Méribel women whose beliefs accord perfectly with their professional activities, and who create a spirit of sharing and openness to sensory experiences that delight both young and old: Magali with her “Marche ton yoga” and Anne with her “Cœur équestre”.
I am Magali from Séjour Coaching Nature. Innovation is essential to get through our present period. I have been a yoga teacher, and a Shiatsu, Chinese medicine and sports massage practitioner in Méribel for almost 15 years. I grew up in the mountains, in Contamines Mont Joy, and I go to the Tuéda Reserve every day to re-energise myself.
What experiences does your activity offer?
I structure my outings around a central theme of the five elements present in Nature and in all things (this understanding comes to me from Ayurveda, Chinese medicine and my own observations of nature).
As we wander along paths at different cadences and pause for yoga, we develop a feeling for the elements of earth, water, fire, air and space. We learn to observe ourselves, breathe, connect with our surroundings, listen and be present.
What do the mountains bring to your activity?
When we connect with the earth, through yoga, guided visualisations and breathing, we become like the mountain, stable, powerful, anchored and safe…
“At Tuéda, everything is in its natural state, it’s the jewel of Méribel and thanks to its rare species of Cembro Pines, the area is protected and preserved.”
Do you live in the mountains all year-long? Why have you made this choice?
Yes, in the summer and winter seasons. For autumn and spring, we have invested in a farmhouse we’re renovating in the Lot. My four-year-old son wishes we could live in the ‘snow house’ all year round!
Who are your activities for? When can we do them?
They are for active people who are looking for a different way of immersing themselves in nature, in laughter, movement and sharing.
They are suitable for those aged from eight to 77 years, providing they are active and in good health, and they perfectly suit families as we use animals to convey ideas.

It happened during a private session, connecting with our dreams, the element of fire and self-confidence. Two mothers in their forties wanted to change careers to something more inspiring and connected with Nature. They wrote to me three months later, telling me that moment at Tuéda had been a motivation and a trigger. They are both now enrolled in training, one in permaculture and the other as a florist. Their vision of themselves on the snowy Tuéda pontoon facing the Mont Vallon had stayed with them at every step of their major career shifts!

My name is Anne. I have been a ski and riding instructor for over 30 years! Riding used to be available here only in summer. For the past six years, I’ve managed Méribel’s equestrian centre, le Cœur Equestre, where I have created an equestrian business that’s open year-round, even in winter, which is rare at 1,500m altitude!
What experiences does your activity offer?
We offer two-hour horse rides in the snow that allow you to do the tour of Lake Tuéda in the Nature Reserve. We also offer pony rides on a leading rein, pony-sledding and ski-joering either in the outdoor arena or by the river, depending on the riders’ level and the conditions. (The latter activity is not available this winter due to the lack of piste grooming).
What do the mountains bring to your activity?
We discover nature and the mountains from a different perspective and the interaction with the horses adds a special something!
In winter, the Cœur Equestre operates with seven horses and eight ponies, all of them are unshod and rustic breeds that are perfectly adapted to mountain life. They live outside in Méribel all year round: you have to bring in the hay, manage the water, clear snow and, when the snow melts, they graze near the riding centre on the ski slopes!
Do you live in the mountains all year-long? Why have you made this choice?
I stay with my horses. My dual role as a ski and riding instructor guided my choice to live year-round in Méribel. You have to be a mountain dweller to deal with the harshness of winter with animals.
Who are your activities for? When can we do them?
The two-hour horseback ride is for anybody over 10, even beginners. The other activities are open to everyone, even to young children as long as they are accompanied. Pony-sledging is great fun and popular with children and adults. We adapt our activities to the four seasons.

During our first winter season in 2015, our horses escaped from the enclosure at 4.30 in the afternoon in the middle of the February holidays. We found them on the road to la Tania and we got them all back safe and sound. All the team still remember it!
