Top easy hikes in the French Alps, in Méribel
The mountains are for everyone
Numerous initiatives have been undertaken to involve our partners, as well as the professionals, residents, and employees of each business.
These include specific training on the challenges of global warming, regular public meetings to report on the progress of the Méribel 2038 project, and collaborative initiatives with the Savoie Chamber of Commerce and Industry to address the specific issues faced by local professionals. These are supplemented by regular public information such as the town hall magazine, newsletters, and the commune’s website.
In order to formalize the ski lift companies’ commitment to Méribel 2038, sustainable criteria have been incorporated into current public service contracts. This guarantees that the efforts made will continue, whoever is chosen in future invitations to tender. Of particular note are the commitments to contribute to sustainable transport included in the contracts of the 2 operators of the ski area in 2024.
In addition, the contracts for the golf course and the Tueda café have been renewed, with the addition of ambitious environmental criteria such as the use of a majority of local produce for the Tueda café.
Protected since 1992, the Tueda Nature Reserve is one of the gems of Méribel. In 2024, the Maison de la Réserve, located on the banks of Lac de Tueda, was completely renovated to offer two distinct areas: a completely redesigned exhibition on the fauna and flora of the reserve, and an area dedicated to awareness-raising activities for families.
Thanks to a partnership between the Parc National de la Vanoise and the Méribel Tourist Office, this area is dedicated to raising awareness of our junior visitors through fun and educational activities. The Tueda café has also been refurbished to offer local catering.
In 2023 and 2024, the municipality launched two citizen projects to involve residents in the process. Each resident was able to propose a project related to one of the four priorities of Méribel 2038 and obtain funding or logistical assistance from the municipality.
For example, a workshop for making “Tsapiaux”, traditional local hats, has been set up to preserve this ancestral know-how, and a new family leisure area with a barbecue has been installed in Mottaret.
Two litter-picking days in the ski area are organised each year by the ESF and the Mottaret shopkeepers’ association. Open to all, these days are an important opportunity to involve all the partners in the Méribel 2038 initiative, as well as the valley’s residents.
Along the same lines as the carbon footprint study carried out by the major local businesses, the Société des 3 Vallées, which manages part of the Méribel ski area, has launched a Clim Snow study to assess snowmaking scenarios in 2050. This study will enable us to anticipate the future better and to guide investments.
