Festival Jazz Variations: The two in trio

This year, Méribel presents a brand new program for the Jazz Festival.

The Festival’s aim is to give you the chance to discover or re-discover jazz in its various forms, with concerts suited to a seated audience.

With their new album Sadela, The TWO immerse themselves in the Creole imagination of the Indian Ocean. One is Mauritian, the other Swiss, and together they prove that music is the universal language par excellence, and that all it takes is a few bluesy notes to take us on a fabulous trip around the world. Recorded and arranged under the direction of David Donatien, Sadela, which means “both” in Mauritian Creole, is a musical itinerary that explores the island blues known as Sega, Maloya… Through this creation, the two musicians recount their hybrid, mixed-race identities, in perpetual evolution, and thus echo the imaginary “creolization” of the world as thought by the poet Edouard Glissant.

The duo is surrounded by new musicians, and it’s as a quartet that the group will take to the stage to defend this new album, “SADELA”.

It’s always been difficult to categorize the duo’s universe. Blues may have revealed them to the world, but their musical journey is far from limited to it. Their music has always been tinged with

hints of elsewhere, of mixed tastes, impure for the purists, mixed for the contemporaries. Finally, isn’t it fair that the association of a Swiss and a Mauritian should give rise to this kind of atypism? Perhaps this is what has enabled them to establish a certain notoriety on the local and international scene.
