Going on a via ferrata in the french alps

Half-hiking, half-climbing, Via Ferrata is one of the top summer activities in Méribel, along with treetop adventure courses and canyoning. It is done on cliffs or rock faces, using specially equipped routes so you can explore the mountain up close in complete safety. Via Ferrata in Méribel is suitable for all levels, from beginners to experts. It can be done solo or in a group, independently or with a guide, on 3 routes with a range of backdrops and levels, so that everyone can have an unforgettable experience that suits them. All that’s left is to get kitted out with the required gear before setting off to discover the breathtaking views!

The Dent de Burgin Via Ferrata: the highest Via Ferrata in the French Alps

Created in 1998, the Dent de Burgin Via Ferrata is the highest in France, with a summit of 2700 metres. With a range of difficulty levels, from medium to more challenging, this route, which extends along the ridge of the Dent de Burgin, boasts stunning panoramic views and is an exciting experience for hikers. Some sections are impressive and at dizzying heights, such as the little needle descent “Le Curé” which is 70 m high vertically. It takes a little less than a day to enjoy this Via Ferrata Route at your own pace, which can be accessed from the Pas du Lac gondola lift in Méribel-Mottaret. Why not take the opportunity to plan a special picnic? Many of the sections are very easy to walk and are ideal places to stop for lunch. This will give you the chance to take the time to admire the magnificent and unrivalled views of the Vanoise glaciers and all of the Alps.

La Rosière Via Ferrata: ideal for beginners or children

This Via Ferrata Route in the French Alps, located in the beautiful setting of La Rosière in Courchevel, is the perfect introductory route to give you your first taste of cliff climbing. It takes between two and two and a half hours to tackle this very accessible route, which doesn’t go higher than 40 metres, and whose highlight is the 57-metre long Nepalese Bridge that crosses the valley. On this easy Via Ferrata geared towards beginners, you will follow the white limestone cliff faces surrounding and overlooking La Rosière’s turquoise lake. This is a perfect route for a fun family outing. It’s also possible for younger children to just do half the route, and there are picnic areas with tables and barbecue

La Fraîche Waterfall Via Ferrata – Pralognan: a varied, sky-high Route

This third Via Ferrata, short but intense, is located at the spectacular La Fraîche Waterfall in Pralognan. The route follows the waterfall, where you will always be on the rock face. It ends with a monkey bridge and two large zip lines, which are 200 and 400 metres long: a fun way to round off this varied, sky-high route! With an intermediate level, this somewhat steep Via Ferrata Route is aimed at people who are fairly experienced (and who aren’t scared of heights!). It is not accessible without a guide because of the equipment needed for the zip line. Also, as this Via Ferrata in Savoie is short, the most fearless and athletic can do it several times!

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, in Méribel you are guaranteed to find the perfect Via Ferrata Route for you. An outdoor activity that is just as fun and breathtaking as other introductory mountaineering activities, it’s a great way to enjoy the beauty of the mountains in the summer.
